Menstrual Cup Steamers: Everything You Want To Know

Menstrual Cup Steamers PACII

Menstrual cup steamers are relatively new to the menstrual cup market but there is certainly no shortage of brands. Steam sterilizers can be found for varying prices on sites like Amazon & Wish. While it may not be a must have for everyone, they can be convenient for those who prefer to boil their cup but aren’t so great at remembering it (burnt cups are the saddest), don’t want their cup in cookware, or who live in communal spaces and would rather not boil their cup in a semi-public space.

Below are by and large the most commonly found menstrual cup steam sterilizers. There are three main models, which come in slightly varying colors but a wide range of prices. This guide isn’t here to tell you which is better (they’re the same) but to help you be informed so that you can be sure not to overpay and save your cash.

Common Questions

Will it fit my cup?

These steamers fit most cups. The model with the shorter lid has a deeper well to allow for taller items.

Will it fit a disc?

I have tried it with discs without any issues.

Is it BPA free?

Some brands say yes, some say they “are pretty sure” they are. To me, this is not a definitive yes, and should be taken into consideration if this is a concern for you.

A Note of Caution

Always clean your cup before sanitizing and please note that I am currently unable to find a product listing that includes information on the steaming temperature to be certain that it gets hot enough to sterilize cups/discs. Steam can definitely burn, so use caution when opening after use. Also please note that some steamers (not listed here) appear to be diffusers marketed with pictures of cups as steamers. These will definitely NOT get hot enough, so please use caution when shopping.

  1. Hi, thank you for the writeup. I did not investigate all the links, but at least for the popular Pixie Cup, it doesn’t seem they post info about the grade of their plastic. Is heated plastic leaching a concern at all? I’m even considering going with a stainless steel egg steamer but not sure if the heated steel might burn the cup.
