Well, sort of… and it’s about damn time! While it’s not a tampon, menstrual pad, or pair of period underwear, we are finally getting a period emoji… kinda. The new period emoji is officially “drop of blood” and is the result of some hard work and strategic teaming up by Plan International UK, a children’s charity that strives to advance children’s rights and equality for girls all over the world. They have been petitioning Unicode Consortium (the official emoji people) to include a period emoji since 2017. Unfortunately the period underwear emoji they submitted (seen right)wasn’t accepted, but then they got the genius idea to team up with NHS Blood and Transplant to submit a new proposal —a simple drop of blood. Their efforts paid off and the new emoji has been accepted and approved for release this year. While it’s just a blood drop, it is a step in the right direction and a welcome addition to what could arguably be considered one of the most broadly understood languages in the world.
Are you happy with the addition or do you feel that the Unicode Consortium could have done more? We’d love to hear your thoughts!

I’m planning to start my own website soon but I’m a little lost on everything.
Would you suggest starting with a free platform like WordPress or go for
a paid option? There are so many choices out there that I’m totally overwhelmed ..
Any ideas? Many thanks!
Thanks for another great post. Where else may
just anyone get that kind of info in such an ideal
way of writing? I’ve a presentation next week, and I’m on the
look for such information.

I’m sending it to several pals ans additionally sharing
in delicious. And naturally, thank you for your sweat!
Aw, this was an incredibly good post. Finding the time and actual effort to create a very good
article… but what can I say… I procrastinate a lot and don’t
seem to get anything done.
There’s nothing wrong with the emoji but I think they could have done more.
To me, the first impression was, “a drop of blood”.
I would probably never have guessed that it was “the new emoji for period”.
To be honest this makes me a bit mad because the one that was submitted is ten times better. You don’t even have to think. And that’s how ANY symbol/emoji should be.
Imagine if road signs where ambiguous!
So, I think the unicorn consortium should make a statement about why THEIR emoji is so much better!
Greetings from Malmö, Sweden.
